Oakville-Watertown Democrats
“Giving Back to the Community Through Service”
Who we are:
We are your neighbors, your friends, and your relatives, but most of all we are people dedicated to keeping Oakville-Watertown an affordable, great place to live.
What we believe:
We believe that politicians and political parties, as a rule, try to identify ‘hot’ button issues and make promises to address those issues in a way that will benefit their party and their candidates – even if they don’t believe they can keep their promises. We – the Oakville-Watertown Democrats - plan to take a different approach.
We believe that the residents of Oakville-Watertown want to maintain and upgrade basic community services (i.e. Police, Fire, Education, and Road Departments), but not through constant tax increases - especially in these tough economic times. We cannot continually place this burden on the homeowners – many of whom are struggling just to keep up with the status quo. So where will the additional funding come from?
We believe that new non-residential development (Economic Development) can provide the means by which we can improve and expand town services as needed, and that promoting and supporting Economic Development should be the responsibility of all town boards and commissions. To that end, improved communication and cooperation between town boards and commissions is essential to achieve a more business like atmosphere toward development. Additionally, we need to improve both the application processes for development and the processing of those applications through our land use boards.
We believe that it is in the town’s best interest to maintain the taxpayer’s right to vote on the town budget at referendum.
What we promise:
We are promising reality, common sense, and to do our best.
Please join us in our efforts to make Oakville-Watertown, not just a place to live, but a great place to live.
